Authorities are frantically searching for a senior constable’s police diary believed to contain classified information after it landed in the hands of criminals during a raid in Geelong last month.
Information about ongoing drug operations and notes on investigations into aggravated burglaries and other serious crimes were detailed in the officer’s book, the Herald Sun has been told.
Police raided multiple properties around Geelong yesterday as they continued to search for the diary.
It’s understood the book was sitting on the boot of a car when it was stolen during a raid on a rental property on Douglass St in Herne Hill in late September.
Despite the continued efforts to recover the lost diary, Victoria Police said nothing “sensitive” was lost.
“Police are making inquiries after a police diary was stolen from a police vehicle in Geelong late last month,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.
“It is believed the new diary, which did not contain any sensitive information, was stolen from the police vehicle while detectives from Geelong were executing a number of warrants.”
The Herald Sun has been told parts of Geelong’s criminal element have been bragging about being in possession of the diary.
After having a good look through the book, the criminals decided it was more hassle than it was worth and now want to get the diary back to the police so they stop being raided.
While they want to get rid of it, the offenders who stole the diary do not want to be charged and are struggling to work out how to anonymously return the diary.
They floated the idea of anonymously emailing police to let them know where they had left it.
The Herald Sun has been told the diary was stolen during a raid on a Douglass St rental property.
