A 43-year-old man had been arrested and was assisting police with inquiries but was released without charge earlier on Monday.

Police found the body of the 49-year-old victim after being called to the property about 8.50pm on Sunday.

A man reportedly knocked on the door of a property two doors down and told a young woman who answered the door he had just bashed her neighbour to death.

The woman then raised the alarm.

The man charged with murder is believed to be known to the 49-year-old victim.

Resident Trevor Gray, 37, who has lived near the Mount Eagle Way house for 20 years, said his parents heard a loud argument between two men over the weekend followed by the sound of a physical altercation.

“My parents thought it was just another domestic argument,” he said. “I’m still shaking. We didn’t expect it to be anything this serious.”

Another resident, Stacey Annette, said she and her fiance were watching television at the time and hadn’t been able to sleep since police knocked on her door just after 10pm.

Ms Annette said the house, which backs onto her property, was normally quiet.

“I didn’t hear anything last night, and my pet dogs, who are normally good guard dogs, didn’t raise the alarm,” she said.

“I usually heard children playing in the backyard … You hear about this kind of thing on the news but you never expect it will happen so close to home.

“I used to walk my dogs all the time down that street, I’ll never go back.”

Ms Annette said she was considering installing security cameras at her property.
