Pilot seriously injured in Moorabbin Airport plane crash

A man, believed to be in his 20s, has suffered serious injuries after his small training aircraft flipped and landed on its roof at Moorabbin Airport.

A pilot has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition following an aircraft accident at Moorabbin Airport this morning.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, is being treated for head and lower body injuries.

Firefighters from the MFB were called about 10am and found a small training aircraft on its roof.

“The pilot is currently trapped and crews have established foam hose lines as a precaution,” an MFB spokesman said.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman confirmed one person is currently trapped inside the aircraft.

Police and paramedics are on scene.

Some runways have reopened, with the yellow aircraft remaining in the northeast corner of the airport.

Crews from Springvale fire station have left the scene, and it is understood an investigation into the cause of the crash will take place.

The Herald Sun has been told by local SES member one person has been freed from the aeroplane, which is upside down on the runway.

At least six fire trucks and a number of police cars, marked and unmarked, were on scene.
