The voting public “are quickly losing confidence” in the new Premier Jacinta Allan, according to state Opposition Leader John Pesutto.

‘Lowest levels in years’: Victorian Labor sees ’12-point drop’ in support

The voting public “are quickly losing confidence” in the new Premier Jacinta Allan, says state Opposition Leader John Pesutto as support for the Coalition improves in Victoria.

Speaking at the Liberal Conference on Sunday, Mr Pesutto said he was buoyed by recent polls that showed Labor’s primary vote sinking.

“They (Victorians) are seeing corruption around the CFMEU,” he said.

“They are seeing inaction by Premier Jacinta Allan. They are seeing no debt plan to reduce debt. They are seeing taxes go through the roof and it is no surprise.”

After slamming Ms Allan and her government, he called for the Suburban Rail Loop contracts to be released for public scrutiny.

He also questioned whether the CFMEU has had any influence over the project.

His comments came after Mr Pesutto and spokesperson for Planning, James Newbury unveiled the Coalition’s new plan to fast-track cultural heritage plans to help build more homes sooner in Victoria.

Under the “sensible” plan Mr Pesutto said cultural heritage plans would have to be completed within two weeks by Registered Aboriginal parties and that costs would be set to give developers and home builders “more certainty”.

The Herald Sun Indigenous heritage laws were delaying projects for up to 18 months.

Mr Pesutto said the changes would also apply to government agencies involved including Melbourne Water.

“We hear that most commonly there are complaints in the growth corridors where growth is exploding. The complaints are many and varied,” Mr Pesutto said.

“What’s being proposed here is a very simple measure, and no one would argue, I would think, who are involved in the construction of homes, that Melbourne Water should be responding in a timely way when asked.”

Mr Pesutto said the coalition would also look at extra resources for RAPs in order make sure they can meet the deadlines with some groups now facing thousands of homes in areas covered by cultural heritage overlays.
