Penshurst midfielder Luke Ferguson had only been training for five minutes when he went into cardiac arrest.

He was revived by club officials who performed CPR was performed and used a defibrillator for about 20 minutes.

Mr Ferguson was flown to hospital in Geelong in a serious condition.

Club president Brendan Cottrill said the ordeal was shocking and scary.

“All I can do is urge clubs to have trained personnel,” Mr Cottrill told 3AW.

“Keep your first aid up to scratch because it could make a big difference and it could save someone’s life.”
