A PEDESTRIAN has been struck and killed while crossing a road in Melbourne’s east.
The victim, aged in her 40s, was crossing at the intersection of Whitehorse Rd and Station St in Mitcham about noon when she was hit by a car.
Emergency services tried to revive the woman but she died at the scene.
The driver of the car, a 30-year-old man from Prahran, stopped at the scene and was speaking with police.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives were on their way to the scene.
East-bound lanes of the Maroondah Highway are expected to be closed for some time.
