A drone was used to drop drugs into Victoria’s most secure jail and into an West Australian immigration centre, police allege.

And the same remote-control device flew over a separate Melbourne detention facility where drugs and other contraband were later found, the Supreme Court has heard.

Omer Sahingoz, 40, is charged over the security breaches at Barwon Prison and Yongah Hill Immigration Centre at Northam, outside Perth.

Mr Sahingoz is accused of using the drone to drop drugs and other contraband during a three-month period in 2020.

The Herald Sun previously revealed a drone was detected in airspace above Barwon in October 2020, and staff later found a package containing 49 grams of tobacco, and 10 small bags containing 15g of methamphetamine and 29g of buprenorphine.

A pocket knife, three screwdrivers, an empty micro SD card, a USB holder and a GPS device were also in the cache.

It can now be revealed Mr Sahingoz flew to Perth on January 7 last year and is alleged to have used the drone a day later to drop four packages into Yongah Hill intended for detainees.

Police say the packages contained 56g of methamphetamine and 6.5g of cannabis and that, when arrested at Perth Airport, Mr Sahingoz had a drone in his luggage.

The same drone was allegedly detected months earlier flying four times over a Broadmeadows detention centre.

The court was told nothing was immediately found on the grounds of the Melbourne Immigration Transit Accommodation but, a month later, a contractor at the facility found a package on a roof.

Inside were 40g of methamphetamine, a vial of testosterone, a syringe plunger and needles which CCTV indicated was dropped on November 25.

Mr Sahingoz faces drug trafficking charges over the Barwon and Yongah Hill allegations but was not charged in relation to the MITA breaches.

Police allege analysis showed his phone was “in the vicinity” of MITA on the date of the drug drop on the roof.

Mr Sahingoz is charged on counts relating to introducing contraband to Barwon and breaches related to the use of the drone over a prison, operating it out of the line of sight, and using it at night.

Other charges have been laid unconnected to alleged drone activity.

One related to allegations he tried to smuggle methylamphetamine into Barwon Prison during a visit to an inmate on December 13, 2020.

In December 2021, Mr Sahingoz was arrested after being intercepted in Springvale.

Police said there was $30,400 cash in his vehicle, 42g of heroin and other drugs, a tick book listing suspected drug transactions and several cards in the name of Mr Sahingoz and other people.

A set of knuckledusters was also allegedly found.

In a bail application in the Supreme Court in April, the court heard Mr Sahingoz had an “extensive” criminal history spanning more than 13 years, and convictions for drugs, weapons and dishonesty-related offences.

Mr Sahingoz told the court he intended to fight the charges and offered to undergo an intensive rehabilitation program to address his drug abuse.

Justice John Champion denied bail. Mr Sahingoz will face court in Geelong in January.
