Volunteers spearheading an East Gippsland relief centre have been “inundated” with generous donations.

The relief centre in Lucknow, close to Bairnsdale, has asked people to stop bringing donations for now.

Organiser Wendy McPhan is pleading for bushfire victims to get down and take what they need.

“Please, get down here and take what you need,” she said.

“We have so much stuff that has been generously donated.”

There were so many donations that they needed to use a secondary venue, a local primary school, to store items.
