LIKE father, like son. Castlemaine boy Jack Ginnivan has followed in his father’s footsteps after notching his goal-kicking century this weekend.

The 11-year-old booted nine goals in his club Newstead’s 75-0 whitewash over Trentham, taking his tally for the year to an impressive 101 goals.

After kicking six goals in the first half, Jack’s final three goals all came in the final quarter to take him past the magical century.

The talented forward has booted an average of seven goals a game this year and smashed his previous goal-kicking best of 58 goals for the year.

His impressive career record now reads 286 goals from 119 games.

His domination echoes that of dad Craig — also his coach — who is the only other player to slot 100 majors in a season in Newstead’s history.

Mr Ginnivan kicked 103 goals in the 1984 season aged 21 and a whopping 129 majors in 1993, aged 30.

The father of three said he was thrilled his son was able to replicate his goal-kicking feats so early in his budding footy career.

But he was also determined to hold on to his 129-goal record, for now anyway.

“For him to get it when he’s only 11, it’s amazing,” Mr Ginnivan said.

“But he’s not going to kick any more goals than I did. He will not get bragging rights.

“I’ll make sure of it — he’ll be either sitting on the pine or in the backline (if he gets close).”

Modest Jack told the Sunday Herald Sun he would not have been able to achieve the century without his teammates “passing me the ball in the right position”.

The year six student took up footy when he was six years old after watching his beloved Hawthorn win the 2008 AFL Grand Final.

The budding champ said he wanted to follow in the footsteps of goal-kicking Hawks Luke Breust and Jarryd Roughead when he’s older.

One of his two older sisters, Megan, 18, is also a gun forward — she booted four goals for Castlemaine’s youth girls team in its grand final win last year.

Jack’s team Newstead is undefeated and top of the Maryborough Castlemaine District League ladder.
