Legislation to ban the Nazi salute is set to be introduced.
The Herald Sun can reveal the legislation will be introduced on Tuesday and is expected to pass the lower house this week.
It is expected to be passed with overwhelming support.
Calls to ban the salute escalated after a neo-Nazi group attempted to disrupt an Indigenous mourning ceremony at Coburg Town Hall on Australia Day.
Neo-Nazis again disrupted a protest on the steps of parliament in March.
On both occasions the groups performed the offensive Nazi salute.
The government has been working on legislation since earlier this year to outlaw the offensive gesture.
Work has included extensive consultation with local Jewish community groups who have indicated their support for the proposed legislation.
In June, Tasmania became the first state or territory to ban the display of Nazi symbols, flags and salutes.
