A LARGE house fire burning in Narre Warren North is now under control after dozens of firefighters battled it for more than an hour.

Heavy smoke billowed from the home after flames engulfed the upper level of the double-storey house in Harries Court, 41km southeast of Melbourne CBD.

The fire was reported around 1.45pm and an 18-year-old woman has been taken to hospital for observation following smoke inhalation.

No other injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing

Firefighters also battled a second fire in Bundoora just after 2pm.

A triple-storey townhouse — one of seven under construction — went up in flames at Zenith Rise, 16km north of Melbourne CBD.

Fire Service Communication Controller David Rankine said the construction provided a challenge for firefighters.

That fire is now under control and no one was injured.
