Baby Lucky on mend after flight from Bali to Australia for lifesaving treatment

The mother of a miracle baby, who was only given 50 per cent chance of survival after flying from Bali to Melbourne for lifesaving treatment revealed her “special girl” is finally on the mend.

Mum’s plea to save her baby girl from life-threatening illness in Bali

An Australian baby who was stranded in Bali with a life-threatening infection before she was flown home for emergency treatment has been released from hospital.

Melbourne mother Honey Ahimsa last month raised $90,000 to pay for an air ambulance to fly her gravely ill baby – then seven-week-old Lucky – home to Australia for urgent care.

Lucky was rushed to the intensive care unit at a Denpasar hospital in early February after her parents discovered she was struggling to breathe.

She was then medically evacuated to Brisbane on February 13 after being diagnosed with severe pneumonia, sepsis, organ failure (lungs) and RSV-bronchiolitis.

Doctors gave her just a 50 per cent chance of survival at the time.

But in a remarkable recovery almost three weeks later, Ms Ahimsa this weekend revealed her “special girl” was finally on the mend.

“Lucky has been discharged from hospital”, she wrote on Instagram.

“She is not fully recovered though doctors have said that she is well enough to continue her recovery at home.

“It’s also more dangerous for her to stay in hospital as the chances of her getting another infection is high in that environment.”

Ms Ahimsa, who was born in Melbourne but now lives in Bali with her fiance Pan, raised a further $100,000 through a GoFundMe page to help pay for medical bills.

On Sunday, she thanked “doctors, nurses, friends, family and random beautiful strangers” who made Lucky’s recovery possible.

“Thank you for saving us, thank you for saving our daughters life,” she wrote.

“It is clear that our special girl is here with purpose, she truly is Lucky Love.”

Ms Ahimsa was previously given the all clear to fly her daughter to Australia for critical medical treatment.

She had been fighting to secure the $90,000 cost needed for an air ambulance to fly her gravely ill baby, seven-week-old Lucky, to Australia for the last four days.

Lucky was rushed to the intensive care unit at a Denpasar hospital last week after Ms Ahimsa noticed she was struggling to breathe.

Doctors told Ms Ahimsa at the time her baby girl, who has developed a severe bacterial infection in her lungs and requires a ventilator to breathe, may not survive in a Bali hospital.

Though the infant’s condition was previously too unstable for her to be transported via air, Ms Ahimsa on Monday finally received the go ahead.

“Update: medical team arrived last night from Australia. Lucky has been given the all clear to fly and today we will make our way to Australia,” Ms Ahimsa posted to social media.

A GoFundMe page with a goal of $90,000 was set up last week to raise funds for the Ahimsa family to fly Lucky to Australia and to pay for her medical bills.

The fundraising page has now exceeded more than $193,000 in donations.

Lucky is set to fly from Bali to Brisbane, where she will receive treatment for a bacterial infection which has taken over her lungs.

Ms Ahimsa, who was raised in Melbourne but now lives in Bali with her fiance Pan, told media last Thursday she was hoping to transport Lucky to Australia or Singapore for medical treatment via air ambulance, but couldn’t afford the $90,000 helicopter bill.

“We don’t want to lose her … we’re speaking with the air ambulance so we can fly her to Australia,” Ms Ahimsa said.

“She’s only seven weeks old and she’s very beautiful … she is such a sweet little baby girl, she’s very gentle. We really just want her to live a long life.”

More than $82,021 was donated in the 24 hours after the crowd-funding page was launched.
