A Melbourne motocross star has been remembered as a “legend” of the sport after his tragic death practising the trick that shot him to superstardom.

Jayden “Jayo” Archer, 27, died in Melbourne on Wednesday after attempting to land a triple backflip.

He was one of only two riders to have nailed the stunt, successfully landing it at the Nitro World Games in Brisbane two years ago.

He then proposed to his long-term girlfriend Beth King minutes after completing the triple backflip.

The last video posted to his TikTok shows him nailing the triple flip during a practice run.

An online fundraiser started by close friend Brooke Sinclair has raised more than $30,000 for Archer’s family in less than 24 hours.

Ms Sinclair wrote that “Jayo entered a room and instantly lit it up”.

“He was kind, generous and had a magnetic soul. He lived his life to the absolute limit,” she said.

“(On Wednesday) the world stopped for everyone that was lucky enough to love Jayo.

His beautiful fiance now needs to carry on without the love of her life. His family have lost their youngest son. Something most can not fathom.

“Jayo would have given the shirt off his back for anyone in need and now its our turn to do what we can to make these hard days that little bit easier for those that have to continue without him.

“Please join us in supporting his beautiful fiance and family in leaving a little note for them to read in time.

“Many hearts are breaking around the world for those lucky enough to have known him.”

Fellow freestyler and motocross rider Harry Bink said Archer was “one of the toughest humans on this planet”.

“Jayo lit up every room he walked into with his energy and his good values,” he said.

“He wasn’t scared of much and I really admire him for it. I first met Jayo as a teenager and we had a lot of mad times over the years as mates as well as competitors. Many times of my life I looked up to Jayo even though he was a couple years younger than me.

“I don’t think even Jayo even knows how much we are all going to miss him.

“Very proud to have met Jayo, been apart or his life and his outgoing mind set.

“My thoughts are with Jayo’s family a billion times over.”

Archer was a two-time X Games medallist and had been planning to become the first rider to perform a quadruple backflip.

He had spent more than a decade touring with the Nitro Circus, thrilling crowds around the world with gravity-defying tricks.

In a statement, Nitro Circus said Archer was the “epitome of passion, hardwork and determination”.

“He pushed what was possible on a dirt bike to heights never seen before. A positive influence to those around him. And above all else a great human being and friend to us all. We love you mate. Ride in peace”.
