Monash Medical Centre will get a major upgrade of up to $560 million if Daniel Andrews is re-elected next month.

The Premier announced the election pledge for new operating theatres, a new intensive care unit, 34 extra beds and six more birthing suites at the hospital.

A new seven-storey tower will be built above the newly expanded emergency department on the site.

Construction would start in 2025, Mr Andrews said, creating 1500 jobs during the building phase.

The six extra birthing suites will be able to deliver up to 2400 babies every year.

And the new ICU will include up to 28 new beds under the plan.

“It’s 5500 more patients that will be able to be admitted each and every year to Monash Medical Centre here in Clayton and 7500 extra surgeries will be able to be performed here,’’ he said.
