AFLW star Moana Hope and her model partner Isabella Carlstrom have tied the knot in a beautiful backyard ceremony.
The glamour couple, who got engaged in October last year, were married before 100 close family and friends at the Toorak mansion of a family friend late on Saturday afternoon.
“It’s everything we ever wanted in a wedding. No disrespect to tradition, but it’s not very traditional,” Hope says.
“We just want it to be very personal and really nice. It’s like a big beautiful party.”
Mum Rosemary walked the former Australian Survivor star down the aisle sporting a custom black tuxedo from Melbourne designer Effie Kats for the ceremony, before changing into a more relaxed pink suit for the party.
Carlstrom, in a stunning Toni Maticevski white gown, walked down the aisle with her parents Toni and Mikael. She later changed into a white sequined Effie Kats dress, paired with Air Force 1 Nike trainers.
“It’s the perfect party outfit, I’m going to dance all night,” Carlstrom says.
Hope’s sister, Lavinia, who lives with the couple, was also a big part of their special day.
“She’s our flower girl and our ring bearer. She’s also getting her own special ring to feel part of the wedding,” Hope says.
A large marquee was set up in the lush backyard for the cocktail reception where guests dined on mostly vegan cuisine, in keeping with the couple’s anti-animal cruelty beliefs.
Those attending were also treated to an emotional performance from Hope’s family of the traditional Maori welcoming chant the Karanga, followed by the Haka.
“My mum has had the family rehearsing since we got engaged, they’ve got their full outfits and everything. It’s going to be so beautiful and powerful,” Hope said ahead of the event.
Incorporating family and close friends in the day was important for the couple with Carlstrom calling on old school friends to add their own personal touches.
“I’ve got my oldest friends from school, one who is a patisserie chef making the cake, another friend is doing the flowers and my best friend is marrying us,” Carlstrom says.
Hope and Carlstrom will remain in Melbourne for a month before heading to Mexico and America for their honeymoon.
