From a trashed strip club to beloved schools that have become a haven for vandals, these are the Melbourne abandoned locations going viral on TikTok.
Victoria
Don't miss out on the headlines from Victoria. Followed categories will be added to My News.
From former strip clubs to schools, to old mansions and a huge paper mill, there’s no shortage of videos showing Melbourne’s top abandoned locations on social media.
Here are some of the top locations that have gone viral on TikTok in recent months.
SCHOOLS
Videos show abandoned schools and universities in Melbourne, which have now become a haven for vandals.
Inside the former learning hubs, there are piles of dumped rubbish, graffiti scrawled across the walls and smashed windows.
While most urban explorers don’t give out locations, commenters alluded to some of the schools being in Melbourne’s inner south, with some sharing memories.
“So sad to see my former school like this,” one TikTok user wrote.
MANSIONS
TikTok users have discovered “creepy” abandoned mansions in Melbourne, with some of them even saying some of the locations are haunted.
The mansions, which have been damaged by vandals, show windows smashed, graffiti scrawled across walls and overgrown grass.
Some users say that “ghosts” can be seen in one abandoned $4 million dollar mansion.
In another abandoned mansion, which urban explorers claim is 120 years old, the walls are covered in mould and an old piano can be seen.
One TikTok user wrote: “Surely this is heritage listed, it’s too beautiful to sit there and rot.”
PAPER MILL
Thrill seekers have recorded themselves exploring an old paper mill in Melbourne.
The video attracted thousands of shares and more than 29,000 likes.
The explorers are shown climbing the stairs through the building and sitting on its rooftop.
While most of the building appears to still be intact, some bricks have fallen and graffiti is seen across its walls.
In a video by the same user, a group of teens are also seen exploring an abandoned V-Line building, which was also damaged by vandals.
STRIP CLUBS
A video showing urban explorers trawling through the former landmark CBD strip club Goldfingers has been shared thousands of times.
The video shows what appears to be a squatter, velvet couches, old lockers and the bar.
It was expected the bar’s closure would help make way for development on the King and Lonsdale streets intersection site.
Goldfingers, on the Kilkenny Inn site, was opened in 1997 by prominent industry figure Ray Bartlett.
But when Mr Bartlett, known to some as the Lord of the Lapdance, died in 2013, its future became uncertain.
It was reported in 2019 that businessmen Eddie Hirsch and Avi Silver had sold Goldfingers for $50 million.
POLICE STATION
TikTok users have also filmed themselves exploring an abandoned police station in Melbourne, with the video showing a large jail cell, police log sheet and a lost property area.
There is graffiti and dumped rubbish strewn across various rooms in the old station.
Some social media users called for the former police station to be turned into a homeless shelter, while others said they recalled memories of visiting the complex.
“Been there a few times and had no idea that it’s abandoned now.”
Other videos found by the Herald Sun also show abandoned hospitals, supermarkets and even old train yards.
