A Melbourne woman accused of going on a stabbing rampage in an East Gippsland town has been “unwilling” to attend court, her lawyer says.
Ebony Pedretti, 24, was expected to appear at the Bairnsdale Magistrates’ Court on Friday for a filing hearing.
Ms Pedretti has been charged with intentionally causing injury and recklessly causing injury after allegedly stabbing four people across the Bairnsdale CBD on Thursday night.
The victims all sustained injuries.
Defence lawyer Lauren Campbell told the court she had “preliminary discussions” with her client on Friday morning, who was unwilling to attend.
Magistrate Tim Walsh asked if Ms Pedretti seemed unwell physically or mentally, to which Ms Campbell said she looked and sounded “fine”.
She said Ms Pedretti, who refused to engage with her lawyer, had a history of drug and alcohol abuse and suffered from PTSD
“It is likely that she (would) be withdrawing,” Ms Campbell said.
“So she’s not going to come out of her cell, I don’t see there’s any other option other than to remand her over until Monday,” Mr Walsh said.
He said there was a “significant likelihood “ that Ms Pedretti was drug-affected and mentally unwell.
Prosecutor Sergeant Rachel Oliver said there would be DNA involved in the incidents.
Ms Campbell said the matter could be adjourned in hopes to get clearer instructions from her client before then.
There was no application for bail.
Mr Walsh remanded Ms Pedretti to appear online at the Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court for a further filing hearing on Monday.
