Melbourne student takes his classroom apps to California
A CAREY student who has been obsessed with technology for as long as he can remember turned the tables on his teachers by creating apps they can use in class.

THIS Carey student turned the tables on his teachers by creating apps they can use in class.
Kew’s William Taylor, 14, had been obsessed with technology as long as he could remember, so he started designing apps for schools.
“I made my first app when I was 10,” he said. “It allowed teachers to show their students exactly what was meant to be on their desk for a certain activity.”
Apple is flying the year 9 wiz kid to their annual developers conference in California, where he will rub shoulders with the who’s who of tech.
“I wouldn’t mind meeting (Apple CEO) Tim Cook,” he said.

Apps like Terrific Times Tables, that has been used in classrooms around the country, earned William his place at the event.
“I like designing apps because it’s a fun process and it’s cool seeing so many people download them.”
His next project to launch will be a homework time management program.
Carey Baptist Grammar School grade 5 teacher Jacqui Douglas loves using his inventions in her classroom.
“He is inspiring to other students — to show them you just get out there and do what society doesn’t expect from a kid,” she said.
