Elsewhere in Australia, the small town of Liawenee in Tasmania recorded the coldest temperature in four years at -13C.

Adelaide also experienced its coldest morning in recent years with a low of 0.6C.

The cold mornings are being caused by a combination of a cold air mass, clear skies, light winds and a strengthening high pressure system over southern Australia.
