Melbourne Royal Show 2025: Mother and daughters set to cook up a storm in epic bake off
Some say familial rivalry is the truest form of competition, and for the Eglitis clan, they’ll be armed with flour, whisks and hope at this year’s Melbourne Royal Show.
Some say familial rivalry is the truest form of competition, and for the Eglitis clan, their battleground is the Melbourne Royal Show.
Armed with flour, whisks and hope, each year the Eglitis family go head-to-head in the Melbourne Royal Show Arts, Crafts and Cookery Competition with one clear mission: out-bake each other.

The family have been stalwart patrons of the show, but only plucked up the courage to take on the bake-off three years ago.
The trio decided to take the plunge and they haven’t looked back.
It has fast become a tradition and in 2026 Jana’s children are to join in the family bake off, making for three generations of rivals.
“My mum has always been the star baker,” said daughter Laila who will be taking on her mother, Anda, as well as her sister Jana.

“It adds another element of going to the show making it really fun.
“I think more people should do it.
“You just hope it’s in the cabinet - and then maybe, just maybe, it has a Blue Ribbon on it,” Laila continued.
But more importantly, they will find out who will reign supreme in the family competition.
They have baked, eaten and tweaked on repeat and now the proof will be in the pudding.
This year’s battleground? CKY14 – YOYOS.
“We’ve never made yoyos before,” Laila said. “Mum hasn’t made them in years either - so it feels like a fair fight!”
You can see the Art, Craft and Cookery competition at the Spotlight Makers Pavillion at the Royal Melbourne Show from September 25 to October 5.
