Melbourne Quarter redevelopment one step closer in Docklands

A $1.9 billion Docklands development, which includes a skypark and seven towers, is one step closer after marking a significant construction milestone.

A $1.9 billion Docklands development is a step closer after the completion of a new deck overlooking Wurundjeri Way.

Melbourne Quarter will feature a skypark over the deck, with the project eventually comprising seven apartment and office towers to house 12,000 workers and 3000 residents.

The deck will connect three office towers on a 2.5ha site bound by Collins and Flinders streets, near Southern Cross Station.

Melbourne Quarter developer Lendlease and infrastructure firm Arup will relocate their Victorian staff to the first commercial tower, One Melbourne Quarter, next year.

The next office tower, Two Melbourne Quarter, was lodged for planning in July.

Lendlease managing director for urban regeneration and infrastructure development Mark Menhinnitt said this development would transform Melbourne’s city centre.

“Melbourne Quarter will bridge the gap between Docklands and the CBD as the commercial centre of the city moves westward,” he said.

The skypark, located high above Collins St, will have a green city square combined with three office towers, shops, bars and restaurants.

The apartment towers will have 1690 units and there will be a public square at ground level of the redevelopment.

Planning Minister Richard Wynne said the project was among more than $14 billion in developments given the green light by the state government since late 2014.

“Melbourne Quarter is a once-in-a-generation transformation of the CBD,” he said.

“It’s creating thousands of jobs, new open space for all Melburnians to enjoy and it’s the missing link between the city and the Docklands.”
