A group of cars reportedly belonging to nurses at the Monash Children’s Hospital has been targeted by vandals, sparking a social media outcry.

Pictures posted online of the damaged cars revealed smashed windscreens and ripped-off mirrors, number plates and wipers.

The cars were also scratched with a sharp object.

A Victoria Police spokesman said they received reports four vehicles had been damaged on Fregon Rd in Clayton.

It’s believed the vehicles were damaged while the nurses were on night shift, between 8.55pm on Sunday and 7.15am on Monday.

“Police will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident,” they said.

The photos of the cars, posted to social media by Jacqui Felgate, sparked fierce backlash from fellow Melburnians.

“This is awful. I work at Monash and my car was vandalised when I was on night shift. Hope all the nurses are okay – such an awful feeling coming back to that after a long night,” one user wrote online.

“As a mumma with a baby at Monash I get so scared when I need to walk to my car at night and always feel for the nurses doing the same. Then to see this happen to these amazing nurses looking after our babies is just absolutely disgusting,” another wrote.

“Nurses, doctors and all hospital staff are worth their weight in gold. This is disgusting,” another wrote.

The vehicles were parked at the Fregon Hall car park, which is not overseen by the hospital.

Monash Health employees have access to a patrolled employee car park with CCTV and lighting at Monash Children’s Hospital.
