Melbourne bakery introduces gold-covered doughnut

A MELBOURNE bakery has taken the doughnut hybrid craze to a new level, introducing a 24-carat gold-covered treat.

GLISTENING in the light, it’s obvious this doughnut is unlike any other.

Firstly, it’s not just a doughnut, it’s a dossant — a doughnut, croissant hybrid of mouth-watering proportions.

Secondly it’s covered in edible, 24 carat gold.

The delectable treat is yet another groundbreaking creation from the guys at Goldeluck’s Bakeshop in Croydon South.

Owner Phillip Kuoch, 23, says the bakery is well known for its crazy hybrids with standout flavours — but wanted to take it to the next level ahead of mother’s day.

“People want to get something special for mum each year and so we wanted to go above and beyond to create something special,” he said.

So why gold?

Mr Kuoch says he was listening to Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic album while brainstorming and experimenting with new flavours and that’s how the idea came to him.

He even thinks it could be the first golden dossant made and sold in the world.

But don’t be worried that the opulent treat could do you harm.

“I’ve eaten plenty of gold for the past week and I’m okay,” Mr Kuoch joked.

“It doesn’t really have a taste — but it’s all about the novelty and giving something special.

The chocolate fudge flavoured 24K Gold Magic dossant will set you back $15 — three times the cost of the bakery’s usual offerings.

After releasing their new creation on their online site overnight, Mr Kuoch says they’ve almost sold out for this weekend, and has warned dossant lovers to order early for Mothers Day.
