Qantas plane forced to land at Melbourne airport due to crew smelling fumes
A Qantas flight was forced to return to Melbourne after the crew became worried about fumes, leading to a “precautionary emergency response”.

A Perth-bound Qantas flight was forced to return to Melbourne after crew members smelled fumes in the cockpit on Sunday.
The Boeing 737 landed without incident after it reported issues.
A spokesman for Tullamarine airport said a “precautionary emergency response” was issued about 10.30am.
“Melbourne Airport instigated a precautionary emergency response for a Qantas Boeing 737 that reported issues,” the spokesman said.
“The aircraft landed without incident and taxied to the gate normally.
“Emergency services are in the process of standing down.”
A Qantas spokeswoman said QF769 returned to Melbourne shortly after take off, due to the crew reporting fumes in the flight deck.
“Following standard procedure, the captain declared a priority landing and returned to Melbourne,” the Qantas spokeswoman said.
“The aircraft landed normally and safely and passengers have disembarked the aircraft.
“Engineers are inspecting the aircraft and the passengers will be transferred to an alternative aircraft.”
A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesman said crews responded to reports of smoke in a cockpit of a airplane.
They were not required at the scene.
The incident was declared safe shortly before 11am.
