Opposition Leader Matthew Guy has blasted the state government for behaving “like a pack of bastards” to residents impacted by the North East Link project.

It comes after the Premier on Thursday launched a recruitment blitz on Thursday in a bid to hire up to 10,000 people for the project.

Mr Guy claimed the government had failed to inform homeowners about the project and what could be built near them.

“It’d be nice if the government went on an honesty drive with that project,” he said.

“It’s a nice PR announcement for the Premier but how about telling the councils and the residents what is actually going to be built.

“The Andrews government has behaved like a pack of bastards to a lot of the residents out there and they couldn’t care less that this is people’s home.

“They have behaved appallingly.”

Mr Guy, who is the local MP for Bulleen, said he had sat in the living rooms of residents who were brought to tears over the project.

“They wake up and find the vegetation, which is 30 years old behind their homes, being moonscaped,” he said.

Meanwhile, the state government is on the hunt for workers to build North East Link – Victoria’s biggest ever road project — which is expected to create over 10,000 jobs.

“It’s about filling that missing link in our road network … something that should have been done 40-50 years ago,” the premier said.

The road is expected to slash travel times by up to 35 minutes and take 15,000 trucks off local roads.

Hundreds of jobs have already been advertised with the government hoping to attract workers in a range of industries including traffic, utility and construction engineers and project managers.

10 per cent of construction hours are expected to be completed by apprentices, trainees and cadets.
