MARRIED at First Sight Romeo Nick Furphy is prepared to sacrifice love to support his father, who is undergoing tests for motor neurone disease.
Furphy, 30, has found happiness with on-air bride Sharon Marsh, 31, but the terrifying shadow of MND has cast a pall over their love.
With his father, Graeme, based in Bairnsdale, Furphy has decided he must stay in Victoria to support his dad’s health battle rather than move to Perth to be with Marsh.
“It puts me in a hard spot with Sharon,’’ Furphy, a Melbourne-based carpenter said.
“I don’t want to lose the relationship, but at the end of the day I don’t want to not be there for Dad if he does have it. Hopefully, Sharon comes to the party and if she is interested she will move here and support what we are going through.”
Furphy has returned to work as a tradie working on the state government’s rail crossing project as he juggles his new love and dad’s health woes. Furphy said the family had now sought the advice of several specialists.
“They have said it is most likely that you do have it (MND).
“It is not confirmed yet. We are still getting tests done. I don’t want to be thinking the worst straight away.’’
Furphy said his father had been watching his TV love adventure.
“At the start when I told him I was going on the show, he was like, ‘You are a bloody idiot’, but now it has been one of the most positive things I have done and he loves it.’’
Furphy said he was lucky to have met Marsh. “I’ve actually found someone who hasn’t got mad cow disease, some of the others are bloody nuts,’’ he said. “I am very, very fortunate.’’
