A MAN who was hit and killed by a train in Pakenham over nine years ago is still yet to be identified, as police make a fresh appeal for family to identify him.
Investigators believe the man entered the railway line at the Pakenham Railway Station on his way to Melbourne about 9.15pm on Thursday August 14, 2008.
The train started to move and unknown to the driver, struck the man.
The victim was then hit by a second Melbourne bound train not long after, but this time the train driver realised and called emergency services.
His death is not being treated as suspicious.
But despite extensive inquiries to try and identify him, police are still yet to work out who he is so they can notify next-of-kin.
Detective Senior Constable Mick Van Der Heyden from Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit believes someone in the community will know who this man is.
“We urge that person to contact Crime Stoppers,” he said.
“This man would have had a family. He would have been someone’s son, he could have been a brother, a father, an uncle or a friend,”
“I have no doubt that his family would dearly love to know what has happened to their loved one, and we would like to identify this man and bring some closure for the family.”
Investigators have re-released a digital face image and CCTV images of the man, as well as an image of a jacket he was wearing on the night.
The man is perceived to be of Indian subcontinental appearance, aged between 20 to 30-years-old and approximately 170cm tall.
He was wearing a sports club jacket, believed to be from New South Wales, with a logo reading “Valley Statesman Rugby League”.
Detectives have identified the original owner of the jacket, and believe it was discarded either in Pakenham or Doncaster in the months prior to the man’s death.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
