Man drowns near Brighton beach
A man has drowned near Melbourne’s Brighton beach, with his body spotted face-down in water this morning. It is the second Victorian drowning in as many days.

A man has drowned near Melbourne’s Brighton beach this morning.
He was spotted face-down in the water south of the beach about 9.40am.
Water police pulled him from the bay but the yet-to-be-identified man could not be revived.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

The tragedy comes a day after a scuba diver drowned at one of the state’s most treacherous beaches.
The man could not be revived after being winched from the surf near Kilcunda beach on the Bass Coast shortly before 11am yesterday.
Another diver was also rescued at Woolamai Safety Beach, and treated for hypothermia and fatigue at Wonthaggi Hospital.
Seventeen people have drowned in Victoria’s waters since the beginning of the summer.
