Man carrying sledgehammer, gun arrested after home invasion in Ascot Vale
A man carrying a sledgehammer and gun has smashed his way into an Ascot Vale home while a mum and her two children were inside, with police saying he had mixed up the address.
A man carrying a sledgehammer, imitation firearm and iron bar has been arrested after a home invasion in Melbourne’s inner north.
Police responded to reports of a man breaking through the front door of a home on Savige St in Ascot Vale about 2.05am.
The man was arrested at the property and police, who responded in six minutes, seized a sledgehammer, an iron bar and an imitation firearm wrapped in a black sheet.
A woman and three children home at the time were not physically injured.
Police believe the man had intended to target another home but mixed up the address.
