A man and a woman have been killed after a truck smashed into a car in Victoria’s northwest on Friday evening.

Emergency services were called to the fatal crash in Chinkapook, 67km west of Swan Hill, about 5.30pm on Friday.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said the horror incident, just days before Christmas, occurred near the intersection of Robinvale-Sea Lake Rd and Chinkapook-Pier Millan Rd.

“Emergency services arrived on scene and located a woman and man in the car but they could not be revived,” they said.

“The driver of the truck was also injured and has been taken to hospital for treatment.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined and police will prepare a report for the Coroner.”

Chinkapook is a tiny rural town that boasted a population of only 17 people in the 2021 Census.

The fatal accident, which occurred only 350 metres from the Chinkapook town hall and 550 metres from the CFA, has rocked the tight-knit community.

The crash brings the state’s road toll to 288, 54 more deaths than the same time last year.
