The bride and groom who had their wedding gatecrashed by a suspected gastroenteritis outbreak are reportedly looking into taking legal action after at least 30 of their guests fell ill.

About 300 family members and friends of the bride and groom were celebrating at The Park Melbourne, when a flower girl was one of the first guests to get sick.

In the days that followed, it’s believed that up to half of the guests who attended the wedding became unwell, with symptoms including a high fever, nausea, vomiting and in the rare case hallucinations.

The Park Melbourne has since reportedly been given the green light to reopen following council investigations.

It comes as a source told the Herald Sun one of the guests who got sick with gastro-related symptoms was aged just one year old, while a number of other guests with suspected gastroenteritis are quite elderly.

It’s also understood at least three of these guests ended up at the Royal Melbourne and Sunshine hospitals.

Two patients were later discharged on Tuesday morning.

While it’s not clear what caused so many guests to fall ill, management at The Park Melbourne confirmed it was investigating a reported outbreak following the wedding event.

“We are working closely with event guests and with council to determine the cause of the outbreak,” they told the Herald Sun in a statement.

While management declined to comment on the meals that were served that night, it’s understood the adults were served pork and chicken while the children were given hamburgers.

It's believed the guests are falling ill with gastro-like symptoms.

The Department of Health confirmed on Tuesday there was a gastroenteritis outbreak that occurred at the venue on Saturday.

“The department is aware of a gastroenteritis outbreak involving guests who attended an Albert Park reception centre on Saturday,” a spokesman for the department said.

“We’re working with Port Phillip Council to investigate the source of the outbreak and to ensure all appropriate infection prevention and control measures are in place.”

It’s understood the department is leading the investigation into the outbreak, in conjunction with Port Phillip Council and South East Public Health Unit.

The department has also ruled out any links to the multistate listeria outbreak that has rocked the country.
