Two women have been stabbed in separate incidents in Victoria with one fatally wounded.
A woman was allegedly stabbed to death on Sutherland Ave, in Melton South, about 1.40pm on Monday after reports a man was in the street screaming and covered in blood.
Police attended the scene and found the woman severely injured.
She could not be saved.
Police arrested a 42-year-old Melton South man at the scene.
He was later charged with one count of murder and has been remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
Neighbours said they heard loud screams coming from the property before the incident and that children were present in the house when it occurred.
Ecehan Sosur, who was at work and returned home to see the police cordon, said it was a very quiet street.
“Nothing like this usually happens around here in our street. The majority are homeowners not renters,” she said.
“The kids usually play out in the street.”
Hours later, in an incident not linked to the first stabbing, a man attended a residence on Digby Ave in Romsey and allegedly stabbed a 54-year-old woman with a knife about 8pm.
The Romsey woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The male offender fled on foot.
It is believed the parties are known to each other.
Investigations are ongoing.
