Paramedics Jess Spencer and Tim Power have hit the baby jackpot, scoring three successful IVF attempts in a little over three years.

“We think it is pretty rare, and we know we are incredibly blessed,” Ms Spencer said.

“When we became pregnant with Evie on our first IVF attempt, that was a surprise and we were so thankful.

“We went back in 2021 to try again because we didn’t know how long it would take, and we didn’t think we could be that lucky again. We were, and we had Emily, also on our first attempt.

“I said to Tim that I thought we might be that lucky again so we waited a few extra months this time, and now we will have our third IVF baby in March.”

The family is expecting a baby boy from the same frozen embryo cycle that helped to create his sister Emily, who is now 18 months old.

Their unique family is part of a milestone celebration for Newlife IVF.

The health service opened four years ago and this week expects to welcome its 1000th IVF baby.

“Our partnership is incredibly important in providing health services to Melbourne’s growing east and southeast,” Ashley Wheeler, executive general manager of Epworth Eastern, said.

As for Ms Spencer, 36, and Mr Power, 35, they said in an ideal world they always wanted three children.

The couple met at work 12 years ago.

Ms Spencer studied midwifery after becoming a paramedic and coincidentally helped to deliver an IVF baby for obstetrician Dr Chris Russell.

He is the specialist the couple turned to when they started their IVF journey.

“I liked Dr Chris’ approach to caring for women before, during and after their pregnancy and felt he would be a really good match for Tim and I,” Ms Spencer said.

Dr Russell says it is rare for a family to have three IVF babies.

“Mostly because families tend to be a bit smaller these days, and IVF patients tend to be starting their families a bit later and may not have enough time to achieve three,” he said.

“The really remarkable thing for Jess and Tim is that they are on track for three babies from only three embryo transfers. I have asked a lot of other fertility specialists, and none of them have had a “hat trick” or even heard of it happening.”

Asked if this would be their lucky last baby, Mr Power said they still had one more frozen embryo.

“Never say never,” he said.
