Lucky escape for woman as train hits car in Brighton

The woman who fled her car after it became stuck in the path of an incoming train in Brighton this morning allegedly blew four times the legal blood alcohol limit after the collision.

A woman allegedly blew four times the legal blood alcohol limit after getting her car stuck on train tracks in Brighton.

Victoria Police confirmed a woman is believed to have turned onto the railway lines at the intersection of New St and Beach Rd just after 5am.

It is understood that her car then became stuck on the tracks, and crashed with a train.

“The woman who is aged in her 50s was able to get out of the vehicle before it was clipped by the train. Luckily she was not injured,” police spokesman Alistair Parsons said.

Victoria Police alleged the woman blew 0.211 in an evidentiary breath test.

She is expected to be charged on summons for drink driving and numerous other traffic offences.

The Sandringham line was reopened hours after the crash.
