Spill has been incredibly damaging - Kroger

A CACHE of leaked emails has revealed deep divisions in the highest echelons of the Victorian Liberal Party with senior figures trading verbal barbs in a months long spat.

The emails show warring factions inside the party’s powerful Administrative Committee accuse each other of damaging leaks to the media and sabotaging the Coalition’s state election campaign.

Contained in the leaked email dossier is responses from senior Liberals, aligned to state president Michael Kroger, telling party volunteers their complaints are “galling” “nauseating” “factional nonsense” or “irrelevant.’’

One Young Liberal says his allegation Victorian members dragged him from a motel room and actively encouraged him to go to “a strip club and snort cocaine” was ignored.

The leaks come on the back of Victorian MP Julia Banks quitting Parliament citing bullying allegations.

In one message Mr Kroger told fellow Administrative Committee member Ian Quick to concentrate on his role as Burwood electorate chair after he repeatedly questioned the validity of the party membership of senior Liberal Ivan Stratov.

“I am receiving multiple complaints from members of the Burwood electorate about how little you are doing as Chair to support Graham’s (Watt) re-election,” Mr Kroger wrote.

Kroger’s allies Paul Mitchell and Marcus Bastiaan have also both accused Mr Quick of sabotaging the Coalition’s election chances.

Mr Mitchell slammed Mr Quick as performing “very badly’’ as Burwood chair.

“Your only interest is having your missive leaked to the newspapers and derailing our election chances. Everyone knows this.”

In emails Mr Mitchell told Mr Quick to ``gain a backbone’’ and that his “overt facionalism was nauseating.”

Mr Mitchell also found another party member’s complaint ``as frankly galling” and told another not to bother the committee with ``factional nonsense and 2 pithy membership objections.’’

Mr Mitchell told the Herald Sun his efforts were concentrated on winning the election and he would continue to put his views forthrightly to achieve that goal.

Mr Bastiaan, who last week resigned from the administrative committee for personal reasons, told Mr Quick to stop sending him emails because he was sick of reading his “conspiracies.”

“I am of the growing belief that you have not interest in the Party winning in November, and it is now quite possible to assume that you would prefer we lost.

“If my suspicions are correct your position on this committee is untenable.”

The party member who made the cocaine complaint also claimed he was assaulted during the fiery Young Liberal Annual General meeting in February. The party held an inquiry into the chaotic Young Liberal AGM, which it is understood the member did not participate in. The party does not have a record of complaint of young Liberals encouraging another member to snort cocaine.

Mr Kroger, Mr Bastiaan and Mr Quick declined to comment.
