It is change of fortunes for Lendlease in Victoria after the company was selected to build the East West Link, which was controversially abandoned by the state government within its first year of coming to office.
The Cross Yarra Partnership — of Lendlease John Holland and Capella Construction — was announced as the preferred contractor in July for the $6 billion worth of work.
The rest of the project’s $11 billion price tag covering the tunnel entrances, other station upgrades and signalling changes.

CPB Contractors and Bombardier Transportation also have the $1.1 billion contract to rollout the new high-capacity signalling network, which Premier Daniel Andrews said would allow trains to run every two to three minutes.
“This will create a turn-up and go trains system for Melbourne,” Mr Andrews said.
He said any disruption the construction project created would be adequately managed.
The tunnel boring machines will arrive in Melbourne in 2019.
The Metro Tunnel Project is added to Lendlease’s government infrastructure projects in Victoria including CityLink Tulla Widening, Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal Project and Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
