THE family of Melbourne teenager Kristen Mace who died in Bali say their lives won’t be the same without her “outrageous sense of humour” and “zest for life”.

The 19-year-old had an epileptic seizure next to a swimming pool at a Seminyak villa and fell in and drowned on September 2 — three days before her 20th birthday.

Hundreds of friends and family gathered for her funeral today at St Andrew’s Anglican Church in Brighton.

The same church last month held the funeral of her 50-year-old mother, Jodie Mace, who died of complications with her cancer treatment.

Kristen’s father Justin Mace spoke of the heartache of losing his wife and daughter in the space of three weeks.

He described Kristen as funny and kind and considerate and said they shared a special bond.

“It’s difficult to make sense of the loss of a young life, a life just starting out with all the potential extinguished in an instant,” he said.

“We all adored her outrageous sense of humour. Her unfiltered honesty was refreshing at times and embarrassing at others.

“We will embrace Krissy’s zest for life and never forget her. How could we?”

Elder brother Jordan Mace said Kristen was “an incredible person who touched so many lives.”

“Kristen meant the world to me,” he said.

“I was envious of her outrageous confidence and strong ‘take me as I am’ attitude.”

“She was the spark in our family that brought the laughter. We were lucky to have Kristen in our lives.

“Say hi to mum for me. I love you both.”

Younger sister Caitlin Mace said she always looked up to Kristen and sought her advice.

“You made me laugh, you made me cry, you made me feel safe. I love you.”

Kristen graduated from Firbank Girls’ Grammar School in Brighton in 2016 and moved with her family to Brisbane where she was working as an apprentice chef.

A large contingent of old Grammarians attended the funeral and several school friends gave speeches in honour of their “funny, happy, caring, resilient, hardworking and crazy” friend.

Mourners were asked to make donations to the Epilepsy Foundation in lieu of flowers.
