FIREFIGHTERS have reined in a factory fire in Melbourne’s east, which saw gas bottles explode and plumes of smoke billow over surrounding neighbours.

A FACTORY has gone up in flames in Melbourne’s east, with gas bottles exploding and sending smoke billowing over surrounding neighbourhoods.

Firefighters were alerted to the blaze on Canterbury Road at Kilsyth shortly before 2pm, with more than 20 CFA and MFB appliances on the scene.

It was brought under control around 3.30pm but Canterbury Road remains closed in both directions, between Liverpool Road and Mount Dandenong Road.
