Kat Theophanous has nominated to represent Labor at the November poll and win the seat of Northcote back from Greens MP Lidia Thorpe.
Ms Thorpe won a by-election last year, after Ms Richardson died following a long battle with cancer.

“I am married with a young daughter, have called Northcote home for almost my entire life, and have spent my career defending Labor values while working in media, public policy and government,” Ms Theophanous said.

The daughter of former Labor minister Theo Theophanous, Ms Theophanous said had seen that how effective Ms Richardson was as a local MP and minister.

“I was proud to work with Fiona to deliver Victoria’s Royal Commission into Family Violence, launch Victoria’s first Gender Equality Strategy and see the success of her level crossings initiative,” she said.

The aspiring candidate said the ALP can win the seat again but the party must “win back the trust of a traditional Labor electorate with real solutions for young people, working families, local businesses and our elderly residents from many different backgrounds”.
