Jonathan Brown has returned to work for grand final week after the sudden passing of his dear mother Mary.

Brown said it had been a difficult time for his family after his beloved mum’s sudden passing two weeks ago, aged 62.

“It’s great for me to get back to work,” he said.

“It’s been a really tough couple of weeks for me. Obviously it’s very tragic for us as a family, we had a beautiful ceremony last week, a beautiful funeral, it was great. A big turnout down at Koroit. She’s very quietly spoken, very under the radar. She didn’t like a hell of a lot of attention. What a beautiful woman she was.”

Brown returned to his Nova breakfast show, Chrissie, Sam and Browny, on Monday.

The trio took part in their first grand final outside broadcast since 2019, with listeners lining up from 4.30am to get through the doors at The Pub at Crown.

A big cast of guests included Fox Footy’s Nathan Buckley, pictured below with Chrissie Swan, Sam Pang and Jonathan Brown.

“It’s amazing to see all the familiar faces, I need some normal in my life,” Brown said.

“Thanks everyone for the well wishes. The family has really felt that.

“It’s amazing how life changes ... mum was an organ donor, there’s only 450 people every year who are organ donors. It’s alarmingly low. They’re like pots of gold.

“It was beautiful comfort for our family. She gave the gift of life in her passing.”
