GIVEN the two years he’s been through, it’s a miracle Jobe Watson has managed to keep a personality — and broader view of the world.
The former Bombers captain, who was stripped of his Brownlow Medal and banned from the game for a year, persists on focusing on a horizon beyond the AFL landscape.

FASHIONABLE BREW FOR JOBE’S VIRGINIA
We hear he can’t wait to get on the plane at the end of the season and hit New York to work behind the coffee machine in his cafe on Fifth Avenue, Hole in the Wall.
But, more importantly, the man who introduced a world of couch potatoes to the word “feminist” with THAT cap when he first arrived back from the Big Apple, is said to be enjoying his footy.
So much so that rumours he is about to pull the plug on coach John Worsfold are said to be off the mark.
Our mail is the bloke who has “no regrets” about all he has faced is enjoying splitting his time between elite sport in Australia and relative anonymity in NYC.
Of course, life in the US is made all the more bearable for Jobe by his model girlfriend, Virginia Slaghekke, who, oddly enough, Watson met in a cafe.
“We met in a coffee shop in New York. He was having breakfast and he ran after me with his number on a napkin,” Slaghekke said.
“Power to the napkin. He was very nervous when he did it, but it worked out well.’’
Slaghekke has spent the last six months in Melbourne, studying and modelling, and no doubt coming to grips with the rules of aerial ping-pong.
