Lawn mowing mogul Jim Penman has offered to bail out the thousands of Victorian public servants expected to be caught up in the Andrews government mass job cuts.
This week’s budget revealed as many as 4000 public service jobs will be axed in the next year as the government begins a “rebalancing” process, slashing $2.1bn from the public sector over four years.
Mr Penman, who founded the hugely successful Jim’s Mowing franchise, has issued a call out to public servants looking for a career change.
Mr Penman, a long time critic of Premier Daniel Andrews and his handling of the Covid pandemic, said the Jim’s Group was “desperately in need” of more franchisees.
“The Jim’s Group has just hit 5000 franchisees and we need more. We have a broad range of franchises on offer, from mowing to bookkeeping to dog washing and much more,” he said.
“My advice to the 4000 public servants that Andrews is about to sack is – join us. We will never turf you out like Andrews is about to.
“You don’t have to put up with Dan Andrews’ rubbish anymore.
“We will provide you with plenty of support and a Jim’s Group franchise crisis care package to help you get on your feet and into a new career with us at the Jim’s Group.”
Mr Penman first launched his assault at Mr Andrews when sole traders, like his franchisees, were banned from providing their services during the Covid lockdown.
“Not only did Dan Andrews toss a lot of people out of their homes and marriages with the world’s longest lock down, he is now going to tax us even harder and toss more people out of their jobs,” he said.
“The Dan Andrews’ government’s financial mismanagement of the state’s budget is horrific.”
