Jane Garrett in election box seat after factional deal
A FACTIONAL deal will see former emergency services minister Jane Garrett installed at the top of Labor’s state election ticket while Daniel Mulino runs for the federal seat of Fraser.

A STATE MP with an economics PhD is set to be preselected for federal Parliament in a move that will renew the career of former emergency services minister Jane Garrett.
Daniel Mulino, a former adviser to federal Opposition Leader Bill Shorten, will be endorsed to run for the seat of Fraser at the next federal poll.
Mr Mulino currently holds the state Upper House seat of Eastern Victoria, and under a factional peace deal, Ms Garrett will take his place at the top of Labor’s state ticket.

Preselection dealings involving Ms Garrett exploded after the United Firefighters Union tried to torpedo her career.
But Right-wing powerbroker Adem Somyurek, whose grouping is aligned with Ms Garrett’s Industrial Left faction, insisted she got a seat as part of a broader agreement.
After several false starts, representatives of the major Right-wing unions and factions now back the move.
Ms Garrett has been increasingly attacked by UFU boss Peter Marshall, after making it clear she wanted to stay in State Parliament.
Mr Mulino was also an adviser to Steve Bracks and John Lenders before he won a State Parliament seat in 2014.
