Star jockey Jamie Kah is making “significant improvements” in her recovery after she was seriously injured following a nasty fall at Flemington Racecourse.

Kah was knocked unconscious when she was speared into the turf after her mount, Flyball, clipped the heels of eventual winner Veight halfway through the Group 2 Sires‘ Produce Stakes on March 11.

Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Craig Williams sustained a fractured collarbone, broken ribs fractured finger and concussion as his mount, Dubenenko, tripped over Kah’s fallen horse during the race.

Kah’s partner, Ben Melham, told RSN on Monday that the champion jockey was showing positive signs in her recovery.

“The last couple of days I’ve seen significant improvement in her,” he said.

“The last couple of days have been really good.

“She’s just taking the necessary steps from doctors advice.”

Melham said there was “no time limit” on Kah returning to racing within the next six months.

“With brain injuries, they are all different and people recover at different times,” he said.

“That’s not even concern at the minute, the concern is getting her back to full health and then reassessing.

“But even the doctors haven’t given us a lot of information on time frames.

“It will just be day by day, step by step. She will be ready when she’s ready.”

Melham said that Kah was getting frustrated while undergoing rehab at Epworth Hospital.

“She’s supposed to be resting and not watching too much television,’ he said.

“She is getting very frustrated because she is an outdoor kind of person and she is locked up in her room doing her rehab.

“She’s been sneaky the racing channel on and getting in a little bit of trouble for that because she won’t turn it off.”

The racing couple made their red carpet debut at the 2022 Racing Awards in September last year.
