A group of Jacob Elordi “doppelgangers” descended on the steps of the State Library on Saturday to compete in a lighthearted lookalike contest.
The winner of the competition Maxie Oliver, 22, said although he didn’t think he actually looked like the Euphoria star, it was an honour to come out on top.
“I intended just to watch the contest after my friend saw a flyer advertising it in an alleyway on Elizabeth St, but I ended up entering after the organiser approached me,” he said.
“The prize was $50 cash and a fake foam board cheque, so I was pretty happy with that.”
The Media Communications student said he had only ever been compared to the Hollywood heart-throb once before.
“I was in a pub in Dublin with my friends lining up for a drink and then this girl in front of me turned around and said that I looked like Jacob Elordi,” he said.
“I replied saying ‘no I don’t’ and when she heard me speak she said that I was definitely him because I was Australian too.
“I think I look more like Mathew Baynton in Horrible Histories and I get that comparison a lot more often.”
Mr Oliver said the event was very enjoyable and well organised.
“It was inherently very embarrassing for me, but that was the fun of it,” he said.
“I think that we should all be doing more fun, free things like this together and have random groups meeting up.
“I made my friends join in too and it made our day.”
