A 21-year-old was later charged with affray, intentionally causing injury and assault by kicking.

A 26-year-old was released pending further inquiries.

Ziebell had been enjoying a night out with teammates and others at The Osborne Rooftop and Bar when he was set upon.

The onslaught left him requiring surgery for a suspected broken nose.

Police said they were looking for three suspects in the aftermath of the attack.

There is believed to be a link to the earlier ejection from the Osborne of a group of men involved in a scuffle

Ziebell’s last game was against Richmond at the MCG on Saturday.
