Tourists have championed the smiling faces and friendly service in Daylesford, voting the Victorian town one of the most welcoming places on Earth.

Named alongside notable cities in Brazil, Greece, Portugal and Switzerland, Daylesford took out fourth place in the 2024 Traveller Review Awards after a whopping 309 million reviews determined it was among the friendliest tourist destinations worldwide.

Less than two hours from Melbourne’s CBD, Daylesford is known for its natural mineral springs and spa resorts, expansive gardens, mountain scenery and award-winning eateries, making it a go-to destination for relaxing weekends away.

Hepburn Shire Council Mayor Brian Hood said the award, voted by accommodation website Booking.com, “reflected exceptionally well” on the Daylesford community.

“It’s quite an incredible accolade to be recognised not only as a great destination but as a welcoming one,” Cr Hood said.

“In this day and age, with everything else that’s going on worldwide, it’s pretty significant and notable that we’ve got such a friendly, welcoming community.”

When asked what made the town so welcoming, Cr Hood said it was just in the locals’ nature.
