Q: I’ve been prompted to update my app on my iPhone or iPad, but unable to do so, what should I do?

A: Check your app is running iOS 10 or above.

Firstly, please check that your iPhone or iPad is currently using a version of iOS 10 or above. This app only supports iOS 10 or above.

To check your iOS version, follow these simple steps:

a.Go to the home screen of your iOS device and tap on Settings

b.Tap on General

c.Tap of About

d.Note the number after Version; this is the version of iOS installed on the device.

Secondly, if your iPhone or iPad is running a version of iOS below 10, then check to see if the latest version of iOS is available. To do this, simply go back to General, and then tap Software Update. From there you’ll be able to download and install any available updates.

Q: I have an older iPad or iPhone, can I access the app?

A: If your iPhone or iPad is operating on iOS9 and you cannot see a latest version of iOS available, this may mean that your device was not compatible with the app on launch. We are issuing an update to the app (from November 1) to provide compatability with iOS 9. Try again from November 2 to update or download your app. In the meantime please visit our website to enjoy the live and latest news. We are unable to support older operating systems.

Q. My device is running iOS 10 or above, and I still can’t access the updated app

A: When opening the app, you may be prompted to download the new version. Some of our readers are experiencing difficulty in downloading the new version; we’re currently working on an update to this experience, however, in the meantime please try the following steps:

a.Close the app that you are using

b.Turn off your device, then turn on

c.Go directly to the App store (not via the app)

d.Search for the app, then download the new update

Q. These options did not work, I need further help

A: Contact Customer Support on 1300 696 397. Monday to Friday 7am–9pm, Saturday and Sunday 7am–3pm AEST/AEDT.

Q: What is My News and how do I customise the My News feed?

A: My News allows you to tailor your own latest news feed so that you can get straight to what matters to you. Simply select ‘Edit’ at the top right-hand corner to select your topic preferences — these can be edited at any time.

Q: How do I access the sections within the app? (e.g. puzzles or live sport scores)

A: Simply tap on the All Sections menu (three horizontal lines) found along the bottom of the app to reveal our full menu of sections, plus other special features like live sport scores (found under Sport), interactive sudoku and crossword puzzles, comics and horoscopes.

Q: How do I tailor my news notifications?

A: Simply select the All Sections menu (three horizontal lines) found along the bottom of the app, then Settings. Within the settings menu, you’ll find Notifications where you can turn on and turn off the notifications you wish to receive.

Q: What is Today’s Paper?

Today’s Paper is a digital replica of the paper, exactly as it’s printed each day. You’ll have access to the last 14 back issues, and all your favourite lift-outs. Plus you can also download and read offline later.

Q: Where can I find a previously downloaded paper or liftout?

A: Previously downloaded papers and lift-outs can be found in your library section, allowing easy reading without having to download again.

Please note: Downloads will be automatically deleted after a set number of days. Simply tap on Settings, found within the All Sections menu to manage your auto-delete download preferences.

Q: How do I read Today’s Paper offline?

A: Simply download when connected to Wi-Fi or data connection, then once downloaded the paper or liftout can be found in your library and can be read when your device is not connected to the internet.

Q: I’m a Member of the Herald Sun, how do I login to the app?

A: Simply select the All Sections menu (three horizontal lines) found along the bottom of the app. Then select “Log in” and enter your membership email address and password.

Alternatively, if you are browsing the app without being logged in, you may be prompted to purchase a subscription, or notified that a story or area of the app is for Members only. Simply select login on this prompt and enter your membership details to ensure you are accessing your member-only benefits.

Q: Why am I receiving a prompt to purchase a subscription when I have already purchased one?

A: If you are a member of the Herald Sun and are browsing the app without being logged in, you may be prompted to purchase a subscription, or notified that a story or area of the app is for Members only. Simply select login on this prompt and enter your membership details to ensure you are accessing your member-only benefits.
