One widowed customer was bemused when a young man with an accent phoned from an insurance company the other day and asked to speak to “the late Mr ----”.
Graeme Drury, from Leongatha, says his friend, in disbelief, asked the caller to repeat himself.
“He repeated, ‘could I please speak to the late Mr ---- regarding the house and contents policy, which is shown to be overdue’,” Graeme says.
“She then informed him that her husband had passed away some time ago and as the house was now in her name she had taken out a new policy through her local insurance broker.”
The caller, to his credit, mumbled an apology and hung up.
Luckily, the woman saw the funny side.
“Her silly sense of humour kicked in and she found it quite amusing,” Graeme says.
“But what sort of people are being employed by insurance companies these days?”
