A Melbourne TikToker has tested a $35 Kmart ‘hot tool’ hair product against a coveted $949 Dyson Airwrap Multi-styler, with the shock results causing “controversy”.
Paris Woods said she “found a Dyson at Kmart for $35”.
“I’m a Dyson girl, so when I saw this I knew I had to (get it),” she says, unwrapping the pink Kmart hair tool, and pointing it out it has two settings.
“I’ve wanted the Revlon one for quite a bit,” Ms Woods says.
She goes on to say using the hot air smoothing brush, “is very easy”.
“Are you kidding me? Looks so good! That took me literally two minutes. I can’t believe it,” she says after using it on one section of her hair.
After finishing drying her whole head of hair, she says: “This is my hair, all done, using a $35 Kmart hot tool. Looks so good. I actually have to compare this to the Dyson because this is insane.”
In a further TikTok video Ms Woods says “a lot of people have not been happy with me sharing a cheap Kmart product”, adding she was being accused of “faking it” and was very confused as to “why it caused so much controversy”.
But she goes on to demonstrate how she uses the $35 Kmart Hot Air Styler, that she dubs the “Kmart Dyson”.
Extremely happy with the result, Ms Woods says: “And that is the $35 Kmart hot tool blowout, that looks like you got it done at the hairdresser.”
In yet another TikTok, uploaded on Wednesday, Ms Woods compares the Kmart hot tool to the $949 Dyson Airwrap Multi-styler, used with hair rollers, to get ready for a night out — preparing one side of her hair with the Kmart product and the other with the Dyson.
This time she comments the Dyson is easier to use than the Kmart dupe, but that in the end the results are similar and she’s astounded by how good her hair looks on the side she used the Kmart product.
The Dyson Airwrap Multi-styler, that comes with six attachments including curling tools and smoothing and volumising brushes, promises to “give the gift of multiple hair styles using Coanda airflow, and retails for $949.
Kmart is selling its Hot Air Styler Kit, that includes a hot air brush and scalp massager, for $35.
